Affect Vs Effect

Choosing between affect and effect can be scary.Always remember,

EFFECT-NOUN-means-a change
which is a result or consequence of an action or other cause.

synonyms:result,consequences,outcome,

AFFECT-VERB-means-have an effect on; make a difference tosynonyms: influence, exert influence on, transform,

also means- touch the feelings of; move emotionally-synonyms: hurt, trouble

TIP :try substituting EFFECT(noun) with the noun CONSEQUENCES and AFFECT(verb) with

 the verb TRANSFORM.

EXAMPLE: Do not allow this incident to effect your decision.
Tip: Do the substitution test."Do not allow this incident to consequence your decision" < nonsense; effectis wrong."Do not allow this incident to transform your decision" < sounds ok; affect is correct.)

Note: Sometimes, the noun-substitution test won't work with consequence because effect is quite a versatile word. You might have to try other nouns, e.g., appearance. If you find yourself trying to use this word as a verb (e.g., appearappears), then you should be using affect not effect
